Don't automate the mess
Most automation projects fail before they start — not because the technology is wrong, but because the process is.

Automating a broken workflow just produces the wrong outcome faster, at greater scale, with more confidence. If a process has seven steps and three of them exist because of a misunderstanding in 2019, automation gives you a very efficient misunderstanding.
The order matters. Find the waste. Remove it. Connect what remains. Then — and only then — automate the parts that are repetitive, predictable and measurable.
It's less glamorous than buying an AI tool. It also works. The businesses that get this right look boring from the outside: fewer steps, fewer systems, fewer heroics. That's what good looks like.
